The BeLPT test
The principle of the assay is the following: Beryllium Sensitized (BeS) individuals carry, in their blood, T cells that are specific for beryllium. Thus, peripheral blood is collected, mononuclear cells are purified and cultured in presence of beryllium and of Candida albicans and PHA as positive controls.
The proliferation of the cells is measured by using incorporation of 3H-thymidine. Results are compared to reference values to determine if the individual is sensitized.
